Twenty years ago, the 100 Black Men of Stamford developed an introductory four week summer program of tennis serving lower income children in Stamford at Cummings Park. From these roots grew The Stamford Youth Tennis Academy (SYTA), a free year round tennis and academic tutoring program. SYTA brings the benefits of tennis to children in Stamford who otherwise would be unlikely, because of cost or social background, to have access to them.
Today, SYTA cooperates with The Stamford Boys and Girls Club, The Yerwood Center, The Stamford Y, DOMUS KIDS, BeyondLimitsAcademics, The City of Stamford, Stamford Public Schools, KT Murphy Elementary School, The Connecticut Alliance for Tennis + Education, USTA Foundation, USTA Connecticut and USTA New England in reaching over 100 children in Stamford.
Our mission emphasizes education. At every tennis session, we provide tutoring and homework assistance. Through the USTA Foundation “ACE” learning program, we promote the value of, respect for and engagement in learning.
